How We Work

Back to Nature is an ecologically inspired landscape design/build firm. We see opportunities where others see challenges. We design and build customized outdoor spaces that are not only beautiful, but are ecologically friendly. We work to inspire reciprocation between homeowners and nature by designing thoughtful, functional, regenerative environments to be enjoyed by generations to come.

Back to Nature Home & Garden, our retail location, features a new take on the traditional garden center, offering a complete, organic approach to gardening. Designed to help further our green mission, our Garden Center expanded our reach from a landscape/design build firm to enable homeowners to make a positive improvement to their property, as well as the local ecology.

In addition, we offer a variety of services to help clients beautify and maintain their landscape, while keeping in mind the local ecology.

Our History

Back to Nature Home & Garden was founded in 1994 by Anthony Sblendorio, a pioneer of the landscape world, whose designs elegantly integrate sustainability and regeneration.

Fresh out of Rutgers University Landscape Architecture program, Sblendorio saw how developers and landscapers were sabotaging outdoor spaces with a lack of concern for local history, wildlife or ecological impact. Sblendorio wanted Back to Nature to take a different approach – examining the land and how all of the elements worked in tandem. He knew that careful, thoughtful design would yield unique outdoor spaces – areas that could sustain and produce a regenerative environment while positively impacting the local wildlife, watershed, soil, and ecology.

Coupling Sblendorio’s regenerative and sustainable vision with a talented team of craftsmen, designers and workers, Back to Nature has designed and built beautiful, high-end landscape solutions for clients throughout the tri-state area. From pools to meadows, outdoor kitchens to rain gardens, Back to Nature offers clients a unique design and build solution for their yards.

Back to Nature is a pioneer in regenerative design and build with several LEED certified projects. Of note, Back to Nature’s role as landscape designer/builder of the first LEED certified independent school in the United Sates and the second LEED certified building in New Jersey.

With Sblendorio’s guidance, Back to Nature has evolved into an ecologically inspired landscape design/build firm by fusing the elements of superb site design with sustainable and regenerative techniques, resulting in luxurious landscapes. Over the years Back to Nature has used a variety of techniques and methods that have been adapted to a variety of different projects resulting in beneficial and practical environmental solutions that work from estates to corporate campuses, from a private back yard to a town greenscape.

Sblendorio expanded on his green mission with the opening of Back to Nature Home & Garden, the company’s first retail location. The store offers a new take on the traditional Garden Center with a wholly organic approach to garden. Offering only organic fertilizers, pest control, and with a strong focus on beneficial native plants, Back to Nature Home & Garden provides solutions for your gardening needs. In addition, the store offers beneficial products including local honey, skin and bath products along with a variety of gifts and flowers for your every need. Recognizing that education is key to ensuring change, the store also features an event center where classes on eco-friendly topics are held regularly.
